Daily Routine
What does my child do all day?
Children in our classroom enjoy a predictable routine. In the beginning of the school year this routine helps the new children establish trust in their new environment. By mid year the kids have satisfaction in knowing what to do and what to expect from the school day.
8:00 - 9 am - Extended day children arrive and are greeted at the door. They hang up coats, put on slippers and store lunch boxes.
The child may have a relaxed breakfast, help set up the classroom with teacher or choose a work from the day care cart.
9:00- 9:30 am - School officially begins. The children are greeted by the head teacher.
9:30-9:45 am - At the signal, (a bell or signal of lights) the children leave their work for the first circle. As the children sit in circle, they
will chart the date and weather, given news or information and enjoy the presentation (new work) of the day.
9:45-10:30 am - The children choose their own work from the different areas of the classroom. They can work with a friend or alone.
The different areas of the classroom are Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, Science, Art, Geography, or just
cuddling up with a good book in the library. The teacher will do individual or small group presentation and take the daily log.
10:30-10:45 am - Children serve the school provided snack.
10:45 am - Children ready themselves for outside playtime.
11:15 am - Noon - After outside time each child will have lunch in the classroom. Lunch is a relaxing social event with friends. Half-Day students
dismissal. Afternoon children arrival.
12:30pm-1:00pm - Lunch. After lunch, child cleans up their area and gets their mat and blankets for resting.
1:00pm - 2:15 pm - Toddlers,Pre-Schoolers nap-time. Kindergarten and Elementary level children have a work period: reading, individual floor or table work.
2:15 pm - The work period. All children select or continue working in the classroom areas.
3:00 pm - School closes. After school children play outside until the group snack at 4:30 pm.
After snack the children will have a short circle for reading a book or singing. The children may then work from the daycare cart until they are picked up by parents.
During cold or inclement weather (rain, snow) the teacher may extend the work period or large motor activity, or a short video.
5:00 pm - After School Daycare ends.
